The Denver Broncos could be looking for a new head coach in 2022, and if they are, there are some names flying under the radar to consider.

Big changes could be coming to the Denver Broncos’ coaching staff in the near future. At this point in time, nothing is set in stone regarding Vic Fangio’s future with the team, but there is a chance the Broncos could make the decision to move on and announce it later in the week or after the team takes on the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday.

If the Denver Broncos do hit the head coach market, there are plenty of obvious names that others have mentioned, but what about some names that might be flying under the radar right now?

Let’s take a look through some names that could be considered that you maybe haven’t heard as much about as others.

Underrated HC candidates for the Denver Broncos in 2022

1. Jim Caldwell (former HC, Colts/Lions) or Leslie Frazier, DC, Bills

Older head coach candidates haven’t really been discussed a ton by Broncos Country lately, but two candidates that could have a legitimate shot to replace Vic Fangio are actually older guys.

Jim Caldwell is the only non-interim head coach in Detroit Lions’ modern history to leave the team with a winning record.

Although Peyton Manning is not necessarily the guy in charge of the Broncos, you can bet that Manning would likely put in a good word for Caldwell. Those two spent a decade together with the Colts from 2002-2011.

Caldwell is going to be 67 years old soon, but he’s interviewing for head coaching positions already, starting with the vacant Jacksonville job opening.

Leslie Frazier, the defensive coordinator of the Buffalo Bills, is another older option that is somewhat flying under the radar as it relates to the Denver Broncos except for his obvious connection to general manager George Paton.

Frazier will be 63 next year, and is considered an early favorite for the Chicago Bears’ potential opening being that he played for the Bears’ Super Bowl-winning team in 1985.

Back in 2007, Paton’s first year with the Vikings, they hired Leslie Frazier as their defensive coordinator to replace departed Mike Tomlin, in case you ever need that one for trivia.

Frazier worked for the Vikings until 2013 and was the head coach both on an interim and full-time basis. He has a career record of 21-32 as a head coach but is generally considered a top-10 candidate to land a job somewhere in 2022.

Most recently, he’s been doing fine work with the Buffalo Bills’ defense.
