The Denver Broncos special teams unit is truly one of the better ones in the league.  Both Brandon McManus and Sam Martin are some of the better players at their position.

McManus has been reliable for the Broncos for years; he has a big leg and rarely misses his extra points, and so far in 2021, he hasn’t missed a field goal.

The kicker for the Chargers is Tristan Vizcaino, who has very limited experience in his second year in the NFL, first with the Chargers.

He just simply hasn’t proved to be a competent kicker in the NFL, so the Broncos get the nod here.

The Chargers punter is Ty Long; he’s in his third year in the NFL and with the Chargers.  In his three season’s he’s averaged at least 46.8 yards per punt and has a career-long of 63 yards.

Sam Martin, the punter for the Broncos, averaged 46.8 yards per punt last year and has a career-long of 69 yards.

I think Martin gets the edge here because he’s played in the league longer and is more proven than Long.

Of the 11 positional groups I looked at, the Broncos have the advantage in 8 of them, and the Chargers have the advantage in 3 of them.

Being that the Chargers have a young and exciting quarterback, they’ll get more national attention, however, the Broncos roster is significantly better than Los Angeles’.
