Peyton Manning has been hilarious on Monday Night Football
Former Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning has been absolutely hilarious in his debut on Monday Night Football with Eli Manning.
Was there ever a doubt that Peyton Manning was going to be absolutely awesome on his own Monday Night Football broadcast? Joined by his brother Eli Manning and some featured guests throughout, the 2021 Hall of Famer and former Denver Broncos MVP has been outstanding in the early goings of his first shot at calling a game for ESPN.
Although the Denver Broncos don’t have any games on Monday Night Football or even Sunday Night Football for that matter, Broncos Country absolutely has a rooting interest in this game with Manning on the microphone.
It didn’t take long for the former MVP to go viral.
In the early goings of this game, Manning had already done his best Jon Gruden impression and then mimicked what it was like to be hearing from an offensive coordinator (played by Eli) on third down.
This is just the best kind of television you could ask for if you’re a football fan.
What’s really interesting about the flow of the broadcast is that because the Manning brothers are more focused on breaking things down, chatting it up with Charles Barkley and Ray Lewis, the intensity of the game has been way different than during a normal broadcast.
Peyton Manning has been making wisecracks about Tom Brady not liking the new jersey number rule because of how it impacts offensive linemen identifying players as well as calling his shot that the Raiders would go 6-11 after an incomplete pass on their first play from scrimmage.
All throughout the first half, Manning was dropping some incredible stories. He was dishing on playing against the Baltimore Ravens when they had Ray Lewis and Ed Reed and how both he and Lewis used to try to recruit each other. He joked with Ray Lewis about how the Ravens’ defense killed Kyle Boller’s confidence in practices.
He talked about playing for John Harbaugh at the Pro Bowl and why Ravens players respond to him as a head coach when their number is called.
He corrected all of the horrendous takes about Lamar Jackson being a run-first quarterback and Jackson made an incredible play going through his progressions literally as Manning was talking up that part of his game.
As painful as it was to see Peyton Manning in a Raiders visor, this broadcast is an absolute gift to NFL fans everywhere.
Unfortunately, this means that fellow former Denver Broncos quarterback Brian Griese is not getting the same type of ratings on the regular MNF broadcast.
