Cornerback is a major need for the Denver Broncos in the 2021 NFL Draft, and possibly free agency. Count Northwestern’s Greg Newsome as a possible target for the team in April.

The Broncos are among the teams that the 6-foot-1, 190-pound cornerback has met with, according to The Texans Wire’s Mark Lane.

Recently, it was announced that the Broncos also met with Tulsa linebacker Zaven Collins, so it is obvious that they are very interested in finding some defensive starters early on in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Greg Newsome is commonly projected to go in the second round of the draft, giving the Broncos a legitimate shot at taking him. However, some think that he is good enough to make it into the first round.

I can get on board with that thought, even if it means the Broncos would not be getting him. They would really, really need to love him in order to trade back up into the first round.

He’s a guy who can make plays all over the field—something the Broncos would absolutely love in the Vic Fangio defense.

The Broncos’ need at cornerback grew even bigger when they released A.J. Bouye, who they acquired in a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars last year.

Despite his good football IQ and instincts, Newsome played in just 21 games in three seasons at Northwestern.

At Northwestern’s Pro Day, Newsome ran an incredible 40-yard dash at 4.31 seconds. That’s very appealing.

There will be unexpected things that happen in the 2021 NFL Draft. That happens all the time. There’s not a single mock draft that gets every pick correct.

Cornerback has been mocked to the Broncos in the majority of mock drafts over the last couple of months. It’s possible that they do go a different direction, including trading down in the first round. Newsome would be a solid selection by the Broncos, especially if they don’t have to trade up to get their guy.
