2. Chris Jones

Chris Jones is arguably the Chiefs’ best defensive player, and he is certainly their most disruptive defensive lineman. If the Broncos fail to contain Jones, he can absolutely wreck the Denver offense.

Jones leads all Chiefs’ defenders with 5.5 sacks on the season per ESPN, but his numbers don’t do him justice. Jones is a disruptive interior player who can dominate nearly every interior offensive lineman in the NFL.

The Broncos have a young interior offensive line with rookie Lloyd Cushenberry at Center and second-year starter Dalton Risner at left guard. The two will need to contain Chris Jones and keep the pressure out of Drew Lock’s face if the Broncos want to find success on offense.

Pat Shurmur will be a big key to slowing down Jones’ impact as well. The Broncos must emphasize getting the ball out quickly and allowing the playmakers to work after-the-catch. Utilizing the running backs in the passing game against linebackers could help give Drew Lock easy throws, and will help keep the chains moving.

Above all, the Broncos must avoid getting into third-and-long. When asked to hold the ball and make full-field reads, Lock has struggled and made poor decisions with the football. Avoiding turnovers and holding Chris Jones and the Chiefs’ pass-rush in check will be the key to the Broncos finding success on offense.
