The Denver Broncos won’t be a playoff team in 2020.

Or at least, it will be a huge longshot according to data compiled by FiveThirtyEight. The website, which bases its data off of 50,000 different simulations of the season and updates after each game, gives the Broncos just a two percent chance of making the playoffs.

With just six games to play and already six losses in the bad column, the Broncos are going to have to win most of the rest of the games to have a chance. For those of you saying that the two percent chance of a postseason berth is ludicrous, consider the team’s remaining schedule.

Can the Broncos win five of those games? Can they even win four of those games? The way the team has played this year, it is highly debatable. It would be a shame for the Broncos to miss the playoffs again this year after lofty expectations grew in the offseason. But to say they deserve a spot in the playoffs with the way they have performed this year would be wrong as well.

The Broncos have missed the playoffs in each of the last four years but with an extra Wild Card spot being added this season, it seemed that the team would have a shot to change that. An 0=3 start put the team in a hole it hasn’t been able to get out of.

The only teams with less than a two percent chance of making the postseason are the Atlanta Falcons, Los Angeles Chargers, Detroit Lions, Cincinnati Bengals, Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets.

Of course, if the Broncos can find a way to upset the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, their two percent chance of making the playoffs would likely go way up.
