Denver Broncos Fanzone: Quick takes with Lyndsey Sauer
By Tylor Walden
As the Broncos prepare for the Falcons, I chat with Lyndsey Sauer and get her takes on the team.
A huge win on Sunday is quite exciting, especially one that comes at the final horn. But for the Denver Broncos, it is time to focus on the next opponent. Despite the Atlanta Falcons’ record, they will not be a pushover. Especially given the recent history between the two teams.
Denver has lost three of the last four meetings against the Falcons. It can be tricky facing a team that you only see play every four years. A lot can change in those four years for both teams. The last time they faced, Denver was a few months removed from their Super Bowl victory where Atlanta was a few months away from a Super Bowl appearance.
A lot has happened since that last meeting in Denver. We will see which team will get the victory on Sunday. A Broncos win would move them to .500 halfway through the season.
With that said, let us meet our next guest. This week, I interviewed Lyndsey Sauer. She is the VP of sales for DNVR and a Colorado Native. I got to sit down with her to talk about the state of the Broncos so far in the 2020 season.
Ty: Last Sunday, I can’t even explain it. The Broncos got a spark and won. What stood out to you the most in the win?
Lyndsey: What stood out to me the most, if we are looking at the game as a whole, it was really poor play. The play calling was poor. It was poor in the past. I am really nervous about that for the Broncos more than anything. The poor playing stood out more than anything else. But on the flip side, within that last quarter and a half, grit stood out to me. Never giving up. That is exciting. That is the fun part that stood out.
Ty: Drew Lock appeared to have flipped a switch and played so well after halftime. In your opinion, what impressed you the most about his performance?
Lyndsey: I think what is always impressed me with Drew is being able to flip a switch. I think it is impressive in any athlete when you’re far down in points or it is a close game and you can bring that grit out of you and win a game. Not only do we have a gunslinger in Drew and he is ultimately going to be a good fit in Denver. I am still hopeful for that. I think being able to flip a switch in any game is a weapon. I am most impressed with that.
The quarterback position is the hardest position. It is the goalie in hockey, the pitcher in baseball. These are really difficult positions. When you lose a game, you blame the quarterback. When you win, you praise the quarterback. Drew understands when he needs to tell himself it is his fault and give his teammates accolades. Overall, Lock is a very good leader and that is what you want more than anything in your QB. I think that is what Denver has been missing from the quarterback. I’m impressed with the style of leadership and the respect he brings.
Ty: Despite all the Broncos have dealt with, what are your realistic thoughts for Denver the remainder of the year?
Lyndsey: I am always a hopeful fan. With that said, I do not think we will make the playoffs. I believe we will make things interesting and close, except for the Chiefs. Mahomes is a cheat code in himself. They have too many weapons and we have too many injuries. The rest of the season will be close, close game. I am okay with that as long as we make them close and competitive.
Ty: The Broncos travel to Atlanta to face the Falcons. What do you believe Denver needs to do to get the win?
Lyndsey: I think we will win in Atlanta. We need to contain Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley. If we do that, which I think we can because the defense is playing elite. If we are consistent and keep the defense off the field and stop the three and outs, that will be key for us. It will level the playing field a bit. I think we are the better team; we have a lot of weapons. The connections between Lock and the weapons continue to progress week in and week out.
Also, feed Phil. [Phillip] Lindsay is a weapon.
Ty: Which player on the roster do you think will be an impact on Sunday?
Lyndsey: I think it is Phil and I also think it is Lock. All eyes will be on Lock, coming off a massive win. If he is an athlete that I kind of portray him to be. For someone who is on their high, that momentum continues. He will go into Atlanta on a huge high. If he has that swagger, that look in his eyes to be competitive. We will see out of both of them. I think Fant will be a key player as well as the connection between him and Lock.
Thank You Lyndsey for taking the time out to chat with me. If you would like to hear the full interview, including how Lyndsey became a Broncos fan, you can check out the full interview here. Go Broncos!
