3. Cornerback

The cornerback position for the Denver Broncos should be covered for the 2021 season.

Although AJ Bouye has been out since week one, he has a chance over the final 11 games of 2020 to really prove his worth to the team. Specifically, that worth is $13.5 million in 2021.

The Broncos have to be thrilled with what they’ve seen thus far from young Michael Ojemudia, the rookie out of Iowa who has done a great job of responding to giving up a couple of big plays and has shown veteran poise out there in Bouye’s place.

With Bouye, Ojemudia, and Bryce Callahan all under contract for 2021, the cornerback position is not something the Broncos have to address early in the 2021 NFL Draft, but the depth of this upcoming class dictates they probably should.

Will Duke Dawson step up and eliminate this need for 2021? Davontae Harris? De’Vante Bausby (who is an unrestricted free agent in 2021)?

If the Broncos have a chance to select one of the top cornerback prospects in the first couple of rounds of the 2021 NFL Draft, they might just take it and consider this position group an area of strength going forward.

As we have seen, one injury to someone in this position group can be detrimental. The Broncos don’t want to get into that situation, and they probably need to think about a long-term replacement for Bouye, who is 29 this season and a free agent in 2022.
