The Denver Broncos have the top safety duo in the NFL right now in Justin Simmons and Kareem Jackson.

Behind those guys, however, the Broncos are a little thin.

The team likes Trey Marshall as a developmental player, and he got a nice opportunity last year when Jackson was suspended for the final two games of the season.

Still, it can’t hurt to have some proven depth at safety and Eric Reid is a player who is both familiar with Vic Fangio and Ed Donatell while also providing a versatile weapon in the defensive backfield.

Last year with the Panthers, Reid racked up a career-high 130 tackles with four sacks, seven tackles for loss, and six pass breakups.

Reid was a first-round pick of the 49ers back when Fangio and Donatell were on their staff, and perhaps he could come to Denver and play a hybrid safety/nickel/linebacker role for the team.
