Denver Broncos: First 55-man roster prediction for 2020
Safeties
Justin Simmons, Kareem Jackson, Trey Marshall, Douglas Coleman (4)
The Broncos, at first glance, do not appear to have much depth beyond their starting safeties, Justin Simmons and Kareem Jackson. With the departure of Will Parks, who signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, the team is putting all of their chips on the table, hoping that Simmons and Jackson stay healthy.
So far, Simmons has definitely proven that he can stay healthy, playing in 99.72 percent of defensive snaps in 2019 and 100 percent in 2018.
Both Simmons and Jackson have shown that they have what it takes to be a dominant safety duo. It is shocking to every Broncos fan, including myself, that he was not named as a starter in the 2019 Pro Bowl.
Trey Marshall is primarily a special teams player. He saw just 160 defensive snaps in 2019. The Broncos played over 1,000 defensive snaps during the course of the year.
Douglas Coleman was signed after the 2020 NFL Draft concluded, as an undrafted free agent. He recorded 108 tackles and 11 interceptions during his four-year career at Texas Tech. He has a decent shot at making the final roster due to the team’s lack of depth at the safety position.
