2020 NFL Draft: Broncos go defense in final first-round mock draft
By Tylor Walden
10th Overall (Browns) – Tristan Wirfs, OT, Iowa
Pick made by Shelby Manning – Contributor
Having been compared to Bryan Bulaga, Tristan Wirfs has freak strength and the ability to switch between right and left tackle with ease, Wirfs is arguably the sexiest option at tackle in the first round, especially at this selection.
While Wirfs would be a perfect guy for the Cleveland Browns or any team who needs to beef up their offensive line, I really did not anticipate him falling to them on the board. However, the top ten picks did not fall as tackle heavy as I had expected. Lo and behold, when the Browns came on the clock, Tristan Wirfs was still available, and if this happens on Thursday, I think there is no way they pass him up.
I don’t anticipate the Browns going any direction with their first pick other than the offensive line. Baker Mayfield will continue to struggle without more pass protection, although it is worth noting that they did add right tackle Jack Conklin this offseason. While this means that Wirfs would have to play left tackle, it is a position he has played before it is likely he would make the move without much difficulty. I don’t feel that this transition would keep the Browns from taking Wirfs if he were to fall into their laps.
Although he is not known as the most explosive tackle and tends to struggle with direction changes, he has massive power and is quick and a very good blocker. He would be a great guy to bring in to keep Baker Mayfield protected.
