Jurrell Casey, defensive line

Contract/trade details: 3 years, $37.9185 million / 7th-round pick

The Denver Broncos unfortunately missed out on one of their top free agent targets — former Houston Texans defensive lineman DJ Reader — who signed with the Cincinnati Bengals.

When Reader signed with the Bengals, the defensive line crop was already thinning out a bit in free agency. Leave it to John Elway to come up big in the clutch.

Out of nowhere, Elway traded a seventh-round pick for Jurrell Casey, a five-time Pro Bowl selection.

Casey came into the league the same year as Von Miller, and he’s had a tremendous impact on the Tennessee Titans over the last nine years.

With three years left on his contract, the Broncos absorbed a decent amount of money, but Casey is a disruptive interior player capable of taking this unit to the next level.

This trade was tremendous, even with the salary the Broncos are absorbing.
