The Denver Broncos have met with some of the top offensive linemen at the 2020 Scouting Combine. How high could they draft one?

The Denver Broncos have typically been projected by mock drafters (including us here at Predominantly Orange) to most likely select a wide receiver or offensive lineman with their top pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Those two positions are among the Broncos’ top needs heading into the 2020 offseason, but not only that, they are also two of the deepest positions in the 2020 NFL Draft in general.

As a matter of fact, there are some who feel this year’s wide receiver class is going to be historic.

With that said, the offensive line class is not too shabby either, and it feels like there are players in just about every round that teams could get to help even as starters right away. For the Broncos, a first-round offensive lineman has to be considered, even if the player were to start his pro career as the starting right guard.

The Broncos also understand that Garett Bolles has not played up to his first-round potential, and despite signing a big contract last offseason, Ja’Wuan James’ knee injuries are a concern going forward.

The Broncos have had formal interviews at the 2020 Scouting Combine with a number of the top offensive linemen in this year’s class, including Iowa offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs, Alabama offensive tackle Jedrick Wills, USC offensive tackle Austin Jackson, Michigan center Cesar Ruiz, Louisiana-Lafayette guard/tackle Robert Hunt, and Boise State offensive tackle Ezra Cleveland.

All of these players would need to be taken within the first three rounds of the up-coming draft, and this shows that the Broncos are serious about adding to their offensive line group which could feature two or three new starters in the 2020 season.

One of the coolest anecdotes to come from the Combine about the Broncos’ potential interest in any specific prospect came from Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs, as told by Trevor Sikkema:

Sending scouts to watch practices is not abnormal, but we know the Broncos’ scouting staff has some experience with the Iowa Hawkeyes program. They were undoubtedly there two years ago before the team selected Noah Fant in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

They would have seen Wirfs blossoming at that point in time as well.

For the Broncos to see Wirfs in practice on one of his best days is exciting, and quite frankly, there may not be a better first-round offensive line fit for the Broncos than Wirfs, who is scheme versatile, athletic, nasty, and versatile in terms of what position he can play.

He’s one of a few guys who looks like he could truly start out at guard and play either tackle position well at the next level.

Next. Five Broncos players who could be finished in Denver. dark

The Broncos should have interest in offensive line early on in the 2020 NFL Draft, and we could see a big ugly come in as a first-round pick.
