And then there were two quarterbacks, for the time being, as the Denver Broncos have now decided to waive undrafted quarterback Brett Rypien.

It looks like unless the Denver Broncos sign a quarterback off the streets, the team is going to roll with tested veteran Joe Flacco and a currently injured Drew Lock as the quarterbacks in the room. Brett Rypien will not be joining the team, for now.

The team has decided to part ways with the Boise State undrafted free agent, according to Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic. Denver is hoping that he can clear waivers to make it on to the practice squad.

This does not come as a huge surprise in Denver. The team was trying their best to keep him from playing in the preseason so that there was little tape of him so that teams could not try to scoop him up when he hits the waiver wire.

Unfortunately, Drew Lock’s injury forced the hand of Vic Fangio. Joe Flacco was not going to be playing for the majority of the preseason, so there was no choice to put Kevin Hogan and Brett Rypien out on the field.

With the earlier news of Kevin Hogan being released by the Broncos, that leaves only Flacco and Lock on the roster. Which, in my opinion, means the Broncos are going to sign a quarterback in the next few hours when the waiver wire opens up.

Brett Rypien’s preseason stats included 27 completions out of 44 attempts for 207 yards. He recorded one touchdown pass and two interceptions. That made his quarterback rating a 66.9. Not a strong showing. But it appears that he has potential.

Hopefully the Denver Broncos can find a way to get him onto the practice squad. But for Brett Rypien, his chances of making a final roster have taken a blow.
