Brett Rypien

Age: 23 (in July)
2019 cap hit: $498,333
Years under contract: 3

Brett Rypien probably had a chance to sign with just about any team after the 2019 NFL Draft, so it’s telling he chose the Denver Broncos.

It’s doubtful he simply wanted to continue wearing orange and blue, either.

Rypien, in my evaluation, was a solid early day three prospect and I thought he capped off a phenomenal college career at Boise State with a really nice offseason circuit.

Rypien doesn’t have the natural velocity of Drew Lock, but he throws with anticipation and timing and is a perfect fit for the Rich Scangarello/Shanahan/Kubiak type of offense.

He’s probably going to shred third- and fourth-string players in preseason play, so undoubtedly he will develop a cult following in the coming months.

Rypien is a smart player with some limitations physically, but some evaluators thought he was the fifth or sixth-best quarterback prospect in this class.

This was a nice get for the Broncos and I think the team should treat him as though he was an additional fourth or fifth round draft pick.
