The Denver Broncos added former Colorado State star quarterback and third-round draft pick Garrett Grayson to the practice squad.

Following the Denver Broncos’ unfortunately justified decision to release Chad Kelly, the team set out for a third quarterback to come in and learn the offense, develop, and potentially show the team what he can do next offseason, camp, and preseason.

That quarterback is none other than former Colorado State Rams star Garrett Grayson, a third-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints.

Since he was drafted in 2015, Grayson has played strictly in preseason action and has not had the best of luck. He has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns and hasn’t completed passes at a high rate when given the chance to throw.

There’s a reason he’s being signed to an NFL practice squad at the age of 27, but the Broncos really liked him in the 2015 draft season, they simply couldn’t afford the price he required at the time.

Instead, they picked Trevor Siemian in the seventh round. That pick didn’t work out so bad as far as seventh-round picks go.

So far in his short time in the NFL, Grayson has been with the New Orleans Saints and their division rival Atlanta Falcons, but hasn’t been able to stick. ‘

Even more recently than his stint with the Atlanta Falcons, Grayson was signed on to play for former NFL head coach Brad Childress with the Salt Lake Stallions in the Alliance of American Football league.

There have been a number of semi-pro leagues organized but as a side note, it will be really exciting to see how this one goes as there are a number of big-name former NFL coaches participating in it.

Grayson didn’t get the chance to put out any more tape with the Stallions but the Broncos have seen him working the past couple of years with his two NFC South teams and obviously felt there were some skills there worth developing.

He worked this offseason with former Broncos quarterbacks coach Greg Knapp in Atlanta.

Back in 2015, I was most definitely on board with Grayson coming to the Broncos to learn behind Peyton Manning (his idol growing up) for a year, even suggesting the team trade Brock Osweiler and replace him with Grayson.

dark. Next. 7 trade ideas for the Broncos before the deadline

That obviously didn’t happen and here we are four seasons later with Grayson not having made the impact in the NFL he appeared capable of coming out of college, but he’s getting another shot in Denver and it starts with a practice squad audition.
