The Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks are ready to commence the NFL season and it should be exciting for everyone. This is a new era of Broncos football.

Sunday, the Denver Broncos are finally playing for real as they host the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL regular season opener. This is a rivalry I grew up with as in my childhood and young adult years, the Seahawks (1977-2001) played in the AFC West.

Traditionally, the Seahawks have never fared well at 5,280 feet. The Broncos lead the Seahawks 34-21 all-time and are 21-5 all-time in Denver in the series.

Even in lean seasons, the Broncos have excelled in the season opener traditionally. They are tied for an NFL-best 38-19-1 (.664) in season openers all-time and have won their last six season openers, the best streak in the NFL.

The Broncos’ legendary home field advantage has also served them well throughout the years as they are 44-13-1 (.767) all-time in home openers and have won 17 of their last 18 home openers. They are favored to win this one by a touchdown, according to OddsShark.com.

Our own Andrew Wade gave us three reasons the Broncos are poised to beat their former division foes as well.

This is also the 35th season of the Pat Bowlen era. Although he is not running the day-to-day operations of the franchise anymore, he is still justly venerated as the franchise’s paternal figure.

As a full-time sports statistician for the radio stations I work for, one Broncos stat fascinates me above all others.

When the Broncos win the turnover battle, they have won a current NFL-best 32 consecutive games. This streak dates back to 2012. The all-time record is 34 such games set by the Green Bay Packers from 2009-2013.

As the Broncos look to bounce back after a bad season in 2018, here are some bold predictions from the Predominantly Orange staff.

Injury Updates

Per our friend, Zac Stevens, at BSN Denver and BSN Broncos, the injury list is as propitious as one could possibly hope for from the Broncos.

The Seahawks, as you can see, are without guard D.J. Fluker and linebacker K.J. Wright. They also placed starting cornerback Dontae Johnson on injured reserve, ending his 2018 season.

It is a good sign, however, for Seattle, that ex-San Diego State star tailback Rashaad Penny was a full participant after suffering a hand injury this offseason.

While with the Aztecs, Penny was a magnificent multi-purpose tailback for an offense devoid of weapons.

The Broncos have their own stud rookie tailback, in Royce Freeman, a former Oregon Duck. The Broncos have had success with ex-Duck tailbacks before, Reuben Droughns, and Derek Loville, among them.

More from Predominantly Orange

The Broncos’ defense, at least predicated on the preseason game at Washington, seems to be good again. This did not stop Broncos head coach Vance Joseph from being worried about star Seahawks signal-caller Russell Wilson in remarks to the media this week.

Of course, Broncos fans have every right to be as giddy as my nieces and nephews on Christmas morning in but a few hours. This is because new signal-caller Case Keenum seems to be the best option at QB since Peyton Manning.

As we saw from preseason film, the offensive line “magically” looks “so much better” when a competent QB is under center.

If anything should happen to Keenum, reserves Chad Kelly and Kevin Hogan seem better equipped than Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch were.

The Broncos do look poised to excel and receivers Courtland Sutton and DaeSean Hamilton, also rookies, seem ready to burst onto the scene in a major way. In fact, the Broncos have a staggering 16 players on their active roster (including 10 rookies) who were not involved with the team in 2017.

Weather Update

The weather will also be magnificent as our star meteorologist friend Lauren Whitney of CBS 4 Denver, reveals.

If thunderstorms arise, do what you’re told to do so everyone can make it out safely.

Broncos football has returned. Please tell your friends about us and go Broncos!
