Case Keenum’s time in Denver

Since the Manning era officially ended in Denver, the organization has been searching for an identity at quarterback. With Case Keenum’s resurgence and availability this offseason, Elway is hoping to utilize this opportunity to lock up the position long-term.

Reports out of camp are very positive for Keenum, Lynch, and Kelly. With Keenum as the undisputed starter, this gives Lynch time to continue his adjustment to the NFL. Although it was expected he would need at least two years to be ready to play, the Broncos urgent need at the position unfortunately sped that timeline up.

Kelly is a dark horse at the position having had a great college career at Ole Miss and a fantastic bloodline. Allowing Lynch and Kelly to grow while Keenum hopefully plays productive football for Denver is the current plan. Predominantly Orange editor Sayre Bedinger broke down Denver’s current quarterback position in more detail here.

For years Elway was the man under center for Denver. Since then, it’s been a shotgun approach to finding a quarterback. The current plan could set Denver up for now and for the future. Ideally, we have just two quarterbacks (Keenum and Lynch/Kelly) for the next twenty years in Denver.
