The Denver Broncos waived linebacker Deiontrez Mount on Monday. Mount tore his achilles tendon last month during OTAs and is out for the entire 2018 season.

The Denver Broncos waived linebacker Deiontrez Mount with an injury designation on Monday, according to Charean Williams at Pro Football Talk. The move comes after Mount tore his Achilles in an OTA session.

The move is hardly surprising, as Mount is out for the year with the injury. Deiontrez Mount is subject to the waiver process and it is likely that nobody will claim him. If that is the case, he will be back with the Broncos on injured reserve.

Denver is stacked at the linebacker position. The players on currently on the roster include Todd Davis, Zaire Anderson, Brandon Marshall, Bradley Chubb, Christian Kuntz, Josey Jewell, Keishawn Bierria, Jeff Holland, Marcus Rush, Jerol Garcia-Williams, Joe Jones, Shaquil Barrett, Von Miller, and Shane  Ray.

Some of the linebackers on the team-such as Miller, Davis, Marshall, Chubb, Jewell, Barrett and Ray-are sure to make the 53-man roster. Mount’s injury opens the door for a less-experienced player to make the team at the position. The team’s draft picks at linebacker in 2018 will also benefit, as they will see more snaps in practice.

Bradley Chubb is sure to get more snaps in practice with Mount’s injury situation, which is great news for him. More practice snaps equals better productivity. That is scary to think about, giving that he was the fifth overall pick in April’s draft.

With Mount’s release, the Broncos have an open roster spot. Due to the injury to Mount and the news about Shane Ray’s wrist surgery (that will keep him out for three months), it would not be a surprise at all if the Broncos look to free agency and sign a player to fill the voids left by the injured linebackers.

Mount has played in twelve games in three years in the league. He signed with the Broncos last year and appeared in seven games for the team. Prior to signing with Denver, he had one-year stints with the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans.

The Titans drafted Deiontrez Mount in the 2015 draft in the sixth round (177th overall).
