The Denver Broncos brought in Sam Hinkie to the office for a day. His role, an analytics consultant for the team. How can a former NBA GM help?

The Denver Broncos’ struggles the last two seasons were obvious. All was promising for the team until about a quarter of the way through the 2016 season did the promise start going south. This offseason, the Denver Broncos want to right the ship. And former Philadelphia 76ers general manager Sam HInkie could change that.

Wait, say that again? A former NBA general manager helping out the Denver Broncos? And here thinking that we had read it all. But according to Nicki Jhabvala, the Broncos consulted with the former general manager on Thursday. This refutes the reports that the team had signed him.

When they say consulted, it is really a one day deal. Sam Hinkie was brought in to help out the Broncos analytic team and help correct some issues with the team. But why a former general manager for the Philadelphia 76ers?

He did not do well with the 76ers, having an abysmal record to state the facts as general manager. But there is no denying his smarts. His work brought the Philadelphia 76ers into one of the power houses of the Eastern Conference during the season. He also interned with the Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers.

There have been quite a few mistakes made by the entire Denver Broncos organization since their Super Bowl 50 victory. Having a bit of help to right the ship never hurt anyone. With the team’s 5-11 showing last season, if Sam Hinkie’s advice can help, I would not hesitate to take it.

There is only one question that remains. How do the Denver Broncos take the information and apply it to a successful 2018 campaign?
