Trevor Siemian’s first game as the Minnesota Vikings’ backup quarterback will be in the Mile High City against the Denver Broncos…

As fate would have it, Trevor Siemian’s first game with the Minnesota Vikings will be played in the Mile High City against his former team, the Denver Broncos.

Don’t tell me the NFL doesn’t care about preseason ratings.

Siemian was traded, along with a seventh round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, to the Minnesota Vikings for a fifth round selection in the 2019 NFL Draft.

The Vikings traded what will ultimately be a very late round pick for a young quarterback that has started a lot of games in the NFL, playing on the final year of a rookie contract. Since they were paying Kirk Cousins $28 million per season, getting a backup quarterback at a very cheap rate was essential.

The Broncos announced their preseason opponents, and as Ty Walden noted in his initial report, we’ll get to see both Siemian and new Denver Broncos starting quarterback Case Keenum immediately go up against their former teams.

Siemian and the Broncos have a little bit more history than Keenum and the Vikings, and it will be fascinating to see Siemian in a game situation against many of his former teammates.

There should be no bad blood between Siemian and the Broncos. He gets to go to a really great situation, and he’ll probably get paid quite a bit of money to be a bridge starter next year, or at least he’ll be a very highly paid backup.

The Broncos selected Siemian with a compensatory seventh round selection, and he ended up being part of more victories as a starter than he was losses. That’s not entirely his doing, but it happened nonetheless.

There were some great moments for Siemian and the Broncos, but over the past year, it became apparent that he wasn’t the quarterback the team needed to build around. The Broncos did right getting him to a great situation like the one in Minneapolis.
