The Denver Broncos sent Gary Kubiak and a number of scouts to Wyoming for quarterback Josh Allen’s pro day. Will he be their top pick?

The Denver Broncos have had a contingent at most every major pro day for quarterbacks, but if you judge their interest in a player based on the number of representatives present for the pro day, there seems to be a hierarchy developing.

We’ll get into that in a bit.

The Broncos had a strong group at Wyoming’s pro day on Friday, sending senior personnel advisor Gary Kubiak as well as college scouting director Brian Stark and a number of other scouts to watch Allen sling the ball around.

Was it completely necessary?

The Broncos were able to work with Allen for a week in Mobile at the Reese’s Senior Bowl, but perhaps this was a chance for Kubiak and Stark to get some one-on-one time talking to Allen, getting to know him better on essentially a free visit.

The Broncos didn’t have their heavy hitters at Sam Darnold’s workout on Thursday, potentially indicating their chance of actually acquiring him in the draft.

Rumor has it, the Cleveland Browns are interested in Darnold with the top overall pick.

Even though the Broncos weren’t well represented at Darnold’s pro day, they will have him to Denver and work him out, as well as get to know more about who he is as a person.

The same will undoubtedly be true for Allen, who will make his way to Denver sometime in April to visit the team, along with Josh Rosen and Baker Mayfield.

John Elway said as much at the Scouting Combine.

Many might be wondering why Elway wasn’t present at this workout, and the reason is simple. Elway is part of the NFL competition committee, and has to be present for those meetings. I’m sure he would have made the quick trip to Laremy if he weren’t otherwise engaged.

The Broncos sending Kubiak shows their level of interest in Allen. They obviously like him plenty. Kubiak was considered instrumental in the Broncos’ signing of Case Keenum in free agency, and one can only assume the Broncos hired Kubiak in the first place to primarily evaluate quarterbacks.

There’s no doubt he’s gotten a lot of work done on Allen as a potential franchise player, and the Broncos are likely to consider him if he’s available at the number five overall pick.
