NFL Sets 2018 Salary Cap for Denver Broncos and League
By Tylor Walden
The NFL has just announced the cap space that all 32 teams will have to work with in 2018. What would it mean for the Denver Broncos plans?
John Elway and the Denver Broncos have been waiting for a long time to see what the salary cap situation will look like. And it looks like we finally have an answer. Will it be enough to sway Kirk Cousins to come into Denver?
According to Field Yates, the NFL teams have been notified that the salary cap for all 32 NFL teams will sit at $177.2 million dollars. It is a solid increase from the $167 million from the 2017 season. What does this mean for the Denver Broncos?
Well, it places their base salary cap at $23,025,711. That would not be enough to get Kirk Cousins to Denver. However, the team does have about $11 million in cap space from last season, so that should increase their cap space to about $34 million.
From what I am seeing, the only way the Denver Broncos would be able to sign Kirk Cousins is if they cut a lot of contracts that would cost the team. This would make Aqib Talib, C.J. Anderson, and perhaps one more moderate sized contract to be gone.
I believe with this new salary cap, it will change up the Denver Broncos plans a bit. As much as Kirk Cousins could help Denver, there are just more needs than quarterback. Unless for some reason things change, Cousins might be heading elsewhere.

There is also a situation where some restructured deals happen. I also see a situation where the Broncos find a solid option at quarterback that will help groom a drafted quarterback. But I could be wrong and they have a set plan in place.
We will know for sure what the plans are in the next few days.
