The Denver Broncos would apparently like to add a tight end in free agency. What are their options? Who would be a good fit?

Making an appearance on Orange & Blue 760, Denver Broncos insider Mike Klis stated that the team might be interested in a tight end in free agency this year.

If so, it’s a good year to look at that position in free agency.

We took a look yesterday at the possibility of signing a player like Tyler Eifert, and our own Cameron Parker also advocated for Jeff Heuerman, an in-house candidate, but what are some of the options available?

The Broncos have their own in-house candidate in Virgil Green, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent after seven seasons with the team. The Broncos are not expected to bring him back, but you never know.

Klis specifically mentioned on the air that Jimmy Graham’s price tag could be excessive for what the Broncos are looking to afford, and also mentioned Super Bowl hero Trey Burton — who threw the big fourth down touchdown pass to Nick Foles — as an option that might be outside Denver’s price range.

I could easily see teams getting into a bidding war for Burton’s services, as he will be one of the most coveted young pass catching tight ends in this year’s free agent class.

Another young player that could be coveted and, thus, out of the Broncos’ price range (assuming they add a big FA quarterback) is Austin Seferian-Jenkins of the New York Jets.

I think for the money and the risk involved, the option of Tyler Eifert is really enticing. The Broncos may also wait a little bit and see what other players end up being cap casualties around the league.

One name that we could all keep an eye on as a cap casualty is former first rounder Eric Ebron, who was rumored to be of interest to the Broncos at last year’s trade deadline.

It would also not be surprising to see pass catchers like Coby Fleener or Julius Thomas hit the market. Could the Broncos put their differences with Thomas aside?
