The Denver Broncos will reportedly shop quarterback Trevor Siemian at the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine, according to Ian Rapoport…

The Denver Broncos will reportedly be looking to trade Trevor Siemian and discussions could ramp up at the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

This report comes from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, who dropped a couple of intriguing nuggets in one tweet on Wednesday morning.

Check it out:

Over a month ago, I looked into the possibility of Trevor Siemian being traded and a few of the teams that could even be interested. There are a number of teams out there that make sense, but this would be a good trade for a team that has plenty of cap space, a need for a backup quarterback, and perhaps even a plethora of draft picks.

One team that isn’t on that list that certainly could be is the Minnesota Vikings, who currently have just Kyle Sloter under contract for next season.

Siemian is not considered an attractive trade piece by many Broncos fans but this is a player who has proven himself a capable backup quarterback in the NFL, and at worst, a viable third option.

Teams are willing to pay in this league for stability at the QB position because you never know when you’re going to suffer injuries at the position.

The Atlanta Falcons make a lot of sense, because they employ Greg Knapp, who has worked with Trevor Siemian and had a hand in bringing him into the league in 2015.

I mentioned the Vikings now as an option, but the New York Jets are also a viable option, and really any team that doesn’t have a stable quarterback situation or needs a backup could be considered here.

Siemian has one year left on his contract, and will cost $1.9 million against the cap in 2018. He’s started 24 games in the NFL, and that will be valuable enough that someone should trade for him.

Rap Sheet’s tweet also included a couple of nuggets that the Broncos will ‘address the QB position aggressively in FA & the draft’, as well as a note that Paxton Lynch will be part of things this season.

I wrote on Tuesday why keeping Lynch makes sense for the Broncos, at least for 2018.

All things considered, this isn’t shocking news by any means, but it is one of the clearest reports we have to date that the Broncos will be shopping Siemian and talks could ramp up at the Scouting Combine.

I wouldn’t expect a huge haul in return for him, but the Broncos could utilize him as an add-on to a trade, they could go player-for-player, or they could simply try and find a way to unload him and his cap number for a draft pick.
