Is Trading Up in the Draft Possible for the Denver Broncos?
By Tylor Walden
The Denver Broncos currently have the fifth pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Anything can happen on draft day. Would trading up be an option for the team?
With the Fifth Pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select…
Broncos Country will be curious to find out who’s name will be called to become the next member of the Broncos when April 26th rolls around. With this pick, the Denver Broncos have so many options that they can go. I believe it will all come down to how the free agency and senior bowl go that will determine that.
It is no secret that the Denver Broncos are going to need a quarterback after seeing how the three on the roster performed in 2017. Free agency and the draft are going to be the best options for the team.
The Senior Bowl is going to be key for the Broncos offseason plans. Looking at the quarterbacks that they will be going up against and coaching. There is plenty of talent in this game. If they feel confident that the player in the draft will help, then free agency might be spent on key positions, like the offensive line.
What If?
If the Denver Broncos really would consider their options, perhaps trading up could be possible. It got me thinking of one team that could be an option.
What if the Denver Broncos pulled off a trade with the New York Giants to get the No. 2 overall pick? Let us say that the new coaching staff wants to hold on to Eli Manning and draft a quarterback in the later rounds. That is where I can see a trade occurring. Once Cleveland gets their quarterback, the Broncos would have some options.

Josh Rosen, Baker Mayfield, or best player available. Who knows. My only concern is the cost it would take to trade up to No. 2 in the draft. Look back at the trade that the Eagles and Browns had that allowed Philadelphia to draft Carson Wentz at that spot. The Eagles gave up quite a bit in order to get that slot. There is no telling what it would take to allow the Giants to be okay with swapping picks in the first round.
If there is any general manager that can do it, it is John Elway. The thought makes sense. It all depends if John Elway is willing to pull the trigger to possibly get the quarterback or best player he needs to make this team contenders again.
