The Broncos are going to have to do some serious convincing if they want Jamaal Charles back in the fold next year, but I would offer him a more solid guarantee over a two-year contract and make him the featured back in this offense if I were them.

Now, Charles is an older back, and has multiple injuries in his NFL career, but he was healthy this entire season and Denver saw some of the Charles we’d all come to hate in Kansas City, but kept him on the sideline or inactive much of the second half of the year.

I don’t know if that was to prevent him from reaching incentives in his contract specifically, but that seems the most likely thing at this point.

The damage done to the relationship between the Broncos coaching staff and Charles may be irreparable at this point, so I see him going elsewhere where he can have a bigger role and where coaches won’t clip his wings.

Denver did hire a new running backs coach in Curtis Modkins, who was Charles’ position coach his rookie year in Kansas City back in 2008. Perhaps that can be an advantage in their favor.
