With the Denver Broncos facing the Washington Redskins on Sunday, we cross Enemy Lines and chat with Ian Cummings from Riggo’s Rag.

In a rare meeting, the Denver Broncos and Washington Redskins will be facing off. Both teams are eliminated from the playoffs. That means both of these teams are playing for pride at this point.

The Broncos will get a good look at Kirk Cousins. He could be one of the quarterbacks the Broncos could look at during the offseason. It is still in question what the Broncos will do at the quarterback position.

As far as Sunday’s quarterback, all signs point to Brock Osweiler starting for the Broncos. He came off the bench on Thursday following Trevor Siemian’s injury and led the Broncos to a win. Can he lead the team to their sixth win of the season?

With the game just a night’s sleep away, I have decided to cross into enemy territory. Ian Cummings is the site expert over at Riggo’s Rag, which is the FanSided site for the Washington Redskins. I chat with him to see how the Redskins are doing this season.

The Washington Redskins have had an up and down season. What has impressed you the most this season? What has been a disappointment?

To say the Redskins have had an up and down season would be an understatement. There was a time where this team, much like the Broncos, was a favorite to go to the postseason. But they came violently crashing to Earth not soon after, as they often do.

Hopes were high for this season. The defense was as strong as its been in a long time, and Kirk Cousins was in his sixth year with the team. Big things looked to be in store. But injuries and inconsistency led to their downfall.

All that said, it wasn’t a completely lost season for the ‘Skins. Lost in the mourning of a long-departed playoff bid is the solid play of players like Kendall Fuller, Anthony Lanier, and Matt Ioannidis. In a defense where core players are lacking, these three, all draft picks and UFAs from last year, all showed immense development in year two.

Fuller was and is one of the best cornerbacks in the league, despite his lack of name recognition. Lanier has five sacks in the last five weeks, and Ioannidis has provided a push up the middle, when the Redskins often don’t have anything of the sort.

On the flip side, another losing season only increases the urgency for change, and fans, coaches, and players will be forced to watch the playoffs from home for yet another year. It’s a painful trend for Washington, and it’s hard not to think about what might have been wasted this year.

Were Kirk Cousins’ efforts futile in D.C., and was this his last season here? Is Josh Norman the same cornerback he was when the Redskins signed him? 2017 brought promise for the future, but also plenty of questions. Questions that will remain unanswered for some time.
