The Denver Broncos have decided to shut down defensive end Derek Wolfe for the remainder of the 2017 season, placing him on injured reserve.

One of the biggest play makers for the Denver Broncos defense has been shut down for the final four games of the 2017 NFL season. Derek Wolfe will be sidelined for the remainder of the year.

This was after doctors advised him to not play the remainder of the season due to an injured neck. Wolfe has dealt with the neck injury for quite some time. It was injured during the Cincinnati game and aggravated during the Raiders game.

With Derek Wolfe sidelined, look to see Shelby Harris take over his role. Harris has looked solid this season and should fill in well.

Derek Wolfe will end his 2017 campaign with 21 tackles and two sacks on the season.

It is a shame to see Derek Wolfe go to injured reserve. During the season, he helped lead a Broncos defense that was tops in the NFL when it came to defending the running game. His ability to get to the quarterback was also entertaining to watch.

With the extent of his neck injury, there could also be a possibility that football may no longer be part of his future. It could all depend upon how the recovery process goes. There is no doubt that he will be a solid member of the Broncos defense for a few more years.

The important part for Derek Wolfe is to recover and hopefully get himself ready for the 2018 campaign. There might be some changes when he returns. However, there is no doubt he will work hard and get himself back on the field soon.

Wishing you the best in your recovery Derek Wolfe! Hope to see you on the field in 2018!
