Denver Broncos training camp preview: Running backs
30 – Bernard Pierce
Age: 27 – Contract: 1 year remaining, $650,000 cap hit
Bernard Pierce is probably a longshot to make the final roster, but you never know when injuries will arise in the NFL and the Broncos are already covering their bases by bringing in a veteran back who has had at least some level of success in the NFL before.
Pierce was signed to a reserve/future contract with the Broncos and with those, you just never know what is going to happen.
The Broncos have found contributors before from that pool of players, but it will be an uphill battle in a talented group for Pierce, who was once a very impressive Scouting Combine performer.
Coming out of Temple, Pierce checked in at 6-foot, 218 pounds and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.49 seconds with a 36.5-inch vertical jump and a 123-inch broad jump.
Those numbers haven’t yet translated to great on-field success, but perhaps Pierce can revive his career in Denver. Time will tell.
