Paxton Lynch, Quarterback

Steven Kriz, Staff Writer

If the Broncos need just one player to break out this season, one of their young quarterbacks would be the ideal selection. With what transpired during the Broncos offseason program, Paxton Lynch would seem to be that guy.

During OTA’s, Trevor Siemian was more or less the same player the Broncos had last year. He was more or less ready to take what the defense gave him without really pushing the ball down the field. Paxton Lynch has been the exact opposite. Lynch was said to be consistently looking for the big play.

Expect Paxton Lynch to start this season, and expect him to impress. Paxton Lynch isn’t all the sudden going to be a top-10 quarterback in this league, but John Elway has assembled a roster where he doesn’t have to be.

Mike McCoy will offer up a multitude of easy throws for Lynch to get the ball in the hands of playmakers, and will allow him to take his shots. He’s going to have his ups, and his downs, but overall he will look like a completely different player than the Broncos had a year ago.

Mike McCoy will have a good deal to do with this. Over the course of his coaching career, McCoy has shown a knack for putting his players into the best chance to succeed. On top of that, offensive line coach Jeff Davidson has made a significant impact in each stop he has made.

The Broncos line will be better—specifically in the run game. This will also help keep defenses off balance, and aid in Lynch’s success.

Expect a stat line in this neighborhood, provided Lynch stays healthy:

3,850 Passing Yards; 62% Completion Percentage; 24 TD’s; 14 INT’s; 7.5 YPA; 350 Rushing Yards; 4 Rushing TD’s; 5 Fumbles.

Paxton Lynch flashed the potential during the offseason that convinced John Elway to draft him in the first round. He will improve as the season goes on, and by seasons end, he will be the Broncos breakout player of 2017.

If true, the franchise should be in good shape moving forward for the next 10 years.
