Denver Broncos outside linebacker Shane Ray has set quite the goal for himself for the 2017 NFL season. He looks to take it to the next level in year three.

John Elway took his chances during the 2015 NFL Draft and moved up in the first round to take Shane Ray. The outside linebacker was facing an issue when he was found with marijuana just a few days prior to the draft.

When he started falling down the board, Elway decided to strike and make a deal that could benefit the franchise for the long run. And so far, it has paid off in a big way.

During the 2016 season, Ray recorded eight sacks in eight starts. Which is the equivalent to a sack a start. Now with Demarcus Ware retired, Shane Ray is looking to double that total.

Here is what he said to Jeff Legwold over at ESPN about his 2017 goal.

"“I want to be an All-Pro player. That’s something that I aspire to every day. I feel like every big goal that I make, I’ve made smaller goals that can attain that for me. One goal that I said, I went back to how I was thinking in college. I said in college my junior year that I can average a sack a game. Nobody can honestly stop me from getting one sack a game. I look at the NFL and honestly I feel the same way. Nobody can block me for a whole game. One sack a game for me is equivalent to 16 games— that’s 16 sacks. That could lead the league, not to mention playoffs or any of that stuff. That’s how I break stuff down for me, and that’s what I’m going to do.”"

That is quite a solid goal for Shane Ray. And I really like the confidence that he has in regards to his goal. Seeing a third year player lead the league in sacks would be an amazing accomplishment.

Next: Jay Cutler to join FOX Sports

With Demarcus Ware now retired, Shane Ray is looking to take the next step in his football career with the Denver Broncos.

Having Von Miller on his opposite side, these two could be a force in 2017. The quarterbacks of the NFL better look out. Shane Ray has his sights set on greatness.
