Day Nine: Broncos Training Camp Observations
Justin Simmons
Darian Stewart is a free agent after the 2016-2017 season. The Broncos would later target this issue in the NFL Draft with the additions of Justin Simmons and Will Parks. Simmons has had an incredible camp for a rookie. Today, with the starting safeties taking the day off, Simmons saw time with the best defense in football. Simmons impressed by intercepting a pass from Mark Sanchez by taking the ball away from Garrett Graham.
Simmons has extraordinary range for a safety and not a afraid to mix it in with some thunder from the position. He totaled 67 tackles while at Boston College and five interceptions improving as a playmaker on defense. Some draft experts said the Simmons would be drafted in the third round, but the Broncos took him in the third round making it known he is in their future plans.
The six-foot two, 202-pound safety made strong impressions on the coaching staff lately in Training Camp and he will continue his strong play throughout camp and into the preseason. It is important for players to make strong statements in camp and preseason; however, sometimes it could change how they play. Former Broncos safety, Rahim Moore had a monster hit in preseason his rookie year and would get flagged for a personal foul penalty. Moore would not be the same since. In my opinion, Simmons is far and away a better talent and prospect than Rahim Moore was coming out of college. Simmons adds better depth on special teams and safety.
