Trevor Siemian, QB

The little engine that could. Usually, that’s a vocal equivalent of a participation trophy. In the case of Siemian, I think there’s some truth to this underdog’s plight. A 7th round pick in 2015, Siemian was initially considered to be the “Camp Arm” of last year’s camp until he wasn’t. After swiftly beating out Zac Dysert for the #3 QB job and making the 53 man roster, Siemian spend a good chunk of the season serving as Brock Osweiler’s back up while Manning was on the mend.  With one year and one professional snap under his belt, many expect Siemian to remain Osweiler’s back up this season for the Broncos… Then things changed. In what could be categorized as a chaotic off-season, Siemian was left as the only remaining QB from the Super Bowl team of 2015 and he suddenly finds himself in a heated battle for the starting QB job.

With an eighth year vet and a rookie 1st Round pick as his competition, you would think that the odds of Siemian legitimately getting a shot to compete for the starting job is low, but perception and reality can be far different things.  Based on all reports out of off-season workouts, Siemian has been the best QB in terms of arm talent, poise, knowledge of the offense and overall play on the field.  I understand that it’s hard to base much on this portion of the off-season, but stories like this are worth keeping in mind.  With Lynch reportedly falling behind the other two QB’s and Siemian’s experience in the system, there’s a very good chance that some guy named Trevor is the starting QB for the Broncos when they open the season against Carolina.
