#1- The Revenge Tour- 1998
The Denver Broncos suffered a stunning loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 1996 postseason. This team was supposed to win it all, but were shocked that the end of the season came so quickly.
The Broncos would get the first part of their redemption as they smacked the Jaguars 42-17 in the Wild Card round one year later. Their next opponent, a division rival that broke their hearts in Week 12 of that year.
The Kansas City Chiefs were the AFC West Champs and welcomed Denver to icy cold Arrowhead Stadium. This divisional round would be a defensive dogfight. As it seemed like neither team gave an inch. The Chiefs beat the Broncos in Week 12 at Arrowhead on a 54 yard field goal as time expired.
With the Denver Broncos leading 14-10 in the fourth quarter, it was up to the defense as Kansas City held the ball one final time. Mike Shanahan had enough faith in his defense to punt the football on a fourth and one near midfield.
The Broncos defense did not disappoint as Steve Atwater knocked an Elvis Grbac pass near the end zone, resulting in an incomplete and a turnover on downs.
This would complete the second part of the Revenge Tour that ended with the Broncos beating the Pittsburgh Steelers at Three Rivers the following week. The tour ended with a Super Bowl victory and the famous four words in Broncos history.
“This One’s For John!”
