Peyton Manning Too Low on NFL Top 100?
By Adam Malnati
Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning was on the NFL Networks ridiculous Top 100 show as the fifth ranked player in the NFL. JJ Watt took the top spot, but the top five was dominated by offense. Three of the five were quarterbacks, and I suppose that makes sense. The NFL is a quarterback league.

What really needs to be gotten out of the way is the pointlessness of the NFL Top 100. The rankings have no bearing on anything. They seem to be random, and they leave players off that are the best at their own position (see Chris Harris Jr.). The ranking is just one more way for the NFL to stay in the headlines, but that is not what this is about.
This is about Peyton Manning. At 39 years old most quarterbacks are trying to get a job working at ESPN or the NFL Network. Not PFM. Manning is learning a new offense. He is adjusting to Gary Kubiak and Rick Dennison, as they implement a new scheme. After joining the Broncos in 2012, this will be the biggest change in Manning’s illustrious career, and it could be his most important.
Manning might be considered an old man by NFL standards, but this Broncos team could be the best he has had since arriving in Denver.
Kubiak’s offensive scheme is run heavy. He turned Arian Foster into a household name in Houston, and could be getting ready to do that for CJ Anderson. The 39 year old Manning can only benefit from a shift to a run heavy offense, but don’t expect Manning to fade into the background.
Manning and Dennison will work together to make this offense one of the most feared in the league. It is hard to argue with the success of this offense for running backs (just ask Justin Forsette), and Manning will thrive with some of the pressure taken off of him. Defenses will be lost trying to decide what to stop. If you put 8 in the box to stuff the run, and Manning will beat you with his arm. Try and slow the passing game, and this team should run rampant.

The number five player in the league could be getting ready to have one of his best seasons. Manning might be considered an old man by NFL standards, but this Broncos team could be the best he has had since arriving in Denver. I won’t say Manning was disrespected by the league with his ranking, but it just may prove to be the biggest mistake on the list.
