3. James Casey, TE/FB/ST

James Casey is sort of the Broncos’ new Swiss Army knife, and I think he’ll prove early on that his pursuit in free agency was well worth the wait.

The Broncos approached Casey in March about playing for them, and apparently he wanted to mull things over and take a few more visits before deciding. After Denver had picked up Owen Daniels and Joe Don Duncan, it seemed unlikely they’d add another TE/FB but that’s exactly what they did.

Casey established himself over the years as a very good blocking tight end/fullback and proved he was one of the more effective special teams players in the league as well. He could wind up being a very valuable addition for the Broncos and Peyton Manning, as he was once a wide receiver in his days playing at Rice.
