Zac Dysert

The Broncos drafted Dysert out of Miami (OH) in the 7th round of the 2013 NFL Draft, and kept him on the active roster the entire year so other teams didn’t poach him. Apparently, a year removed from his college days and a year under his belt in the NFL didn’t impress other teams’ scouts, because Dysert was waived last year, passed on by all 31 other NFL teams, and placed on the Broncos’ practice squad.

He is a strong-armed QB who is not as athletic as Brock Osweiler, but some people in the draft community liked his potential better.

I was not one of those people, but I think Dysert has intriguing No. 2 developmental potential. He’s had a bit of a mixed bag of reviews from people who are at every Broncos practice, but for the most part, he’s made enough progress that I think he could be in line for a roster spot this year.

Trevor Siemian

The rookie out of Northwestern has an intriguing skill set, and a bit of mystery to his game. The Broncos picked Siemian with a pretty small sample size from college, but when you watch him throw the ball, he can really sling it around the field and has a nice, quick, compact delivery and release.

Siemian spins a really nice ball, and has enough athleticism to move around and make plays outside the pocket, but he’s not going to have any 100 yard rushing games.

The ACL injury could pave the way for the Broncos to put him on IR or at least the practice squad this year, and I don’t think another team is going to try to poach him. If Siemian gets reps in the pre-season, the Broncos could look to trade a guy like Dysert and recoup a draft pick for next year that they have already lost.

I really liked some of the stuff I saw from Siemian, but he’s obviously a project.
