Report: Miami OL Ereck Flowers On Broncos’ Radar
According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, the Denver Broncos and John Elway have Miami (FL) offensive lineman Ereck Flowers on their ‘radar’.
Flowers is a massive, powerful tackle coming from the Hurricanes program, and based what I’ve seen on film, he looks more like a guard in the NFL than a tackle but he might compare pretty favorably — and forgive me for doing this — to Orlando Franklin, who is now with the San Diego Chargers.
Measurables
There are plenty of doubters of Flowers, mainly because he uses a bit sloppy technique in pass protection, but this is a mauler with short area quickness that could be successful in the Broncos’ zone blocking scheme. He is currently projected as a first or second round draft pick, but some feel he is a top 15 player.
I’ve even seen as recently as this past week someone had projected him to go ninth overall to the New York Giants.
He’s big, long, athletic, and plays with a nastiness to his game.
One of the problems I saw with Flowers, however, was that he lets his hands get too wide at times and gets a bit sloppy. He had a pretty horrible Combine when going through offensive line drills as well, so whatever team takes Flowers is going to get a blank canvas, so to speak. This is a player with all of the physical tools required of his position but he needs seasoning and good coaching at the next level to reach that potential.
If the Broncos take Flowers, you sort of hope they do it in the second round in order that they would get someone with a little bit better value in the first round.
