Left Guard

With Orlando Franklin now donning a Chargers’ uniform over in San Diego, a replacement is needed to fill his sizeable shoes. As of right now, the Broncos appear to be content with who they have at guard going into the draft.

The potential of veteran Ben Garland has been highly debated as he’s become a real possibility to start at left guard. Denver also brought on former Miami Dolphin Shelley Smith back in March, a player who has had an up and down career to this point. Both guys are viable choices for Gary Kubiak but they’re nowhere near sure things to turn to.

With that being said, there are more than a few options available for the Broncos at guard in the draft. He’s worth trading up for, but if Iowa’s Brandon Scherff somehow falls to the Broncos, it could end up being the biggest steal of the entire offseason. Another great get would be LSU’s La’el Collins, but both future stalwarts are versatile and excel as run blockers and in pass-protection.

Scherff would undoubtedly fit Denver’s new zone-blocking scheme like a glove. If nothing else, the rookie can provide some fantastic competition at left guard with Smith and Garland.
