The Dailies: JimmyTube

The onset of training camp has brought about a flurry of news dispatches on the Denver Broncos. A sampling of the latest:

The Denver Post is taking this camp coverage thing seriously. And by seriously I mean having a goofball in a Hawaiian shirt interview random fans about nothing. They call it JimmyTube, a feature in which longtime Post “writer” Jim Armstrong bums around and looks for ways to inject his trademark “Bubba” colloquialism and signature “Dude” pronoun. Riveting, Pulitzer-level stuff.

I used to like Armstrong, I really did. At one point I think he actually worked at his craft and hustled for stories. But then he started doing radio with Irv and Joe, and he started some TV work showcasing those shirts, and his Notes column devolved into a paint-by-numbers joke. He’s now a standard-issue Woody Paige multimedia caricature of nothingness. We miss you out here, Bubba. Dude went soft.

Elsewhere in the Post, Armstrong is knocking out formulaic blog entries a few times a day. Mike Klis gives us a Javon Walker status report. Synopsis: Walker is great, and he’s the only Bronco receiver without injury issue. He’s also sporting some kind of mohawk, which makes me wonder if he’s honoring Darrent Williams.

Over at the Rocky Mountain News they’re taking a much more sedate approach to their Dove Valley coverage. Jeff Legwold unrolls a daily Notebook segment, which today highlighted Darrell Hackney, a sub-6-foot, 248-lb. QB. Beefy. And Lee Rasizer gives us a ho-hum assessment of the special teams morass.

The Broncos’ official site gets in the act with the blogs of Jim Saccomano and Andrew Mason. Neither delivers anything earth-shattering, but Mason’s shot of Rod Smith running around a little bit did make me feel warm and fuzzy.

Finally, check out my totally uninformed knee-jerk take on the Broncos current state over at the House of Georges.
