The only player not signed to any form of contract is Brandon McManus. Should the Denver Broncos sign him to a long term deal?

With the signing of Carlos Henderson, the Denver Broncos have almost everyone under contract for the 2017 season. The only player that is not signed is kicker Brandon McManus.

John Elway and the Broncos placed a second round tender on their kicker back in March. As of right now, the tender would give McManus $2.7 million in 2017.

Despite not signing, Brandon McManus has been practicing with the Denver Broncos during the OTA period.

We all remember Brandon McManus’ first year with the Denver Broncos. It was one to forget as he would miss field goal after field goal. At one point, he was even released from the team and signed onto the practice squad.

However, he recovered in 2015, converting on field goals and extra points. He was perfect in the Super Bowl run.

With his impressive run the past two seasons, should Brandon McManus be awarded with a long term deal? I would say yes under the right circumstances.

For one, it cannot go further than four years. According to Over the Cap, the Denver Broncos still have a little over $12 million in cap space. In order to be safe, I would be okay with a little over three million a year.

This way, if the Denver Broncos needed some veteran help, they could still sign someone. But I do believe that Brandon McManus has at least earned more money. Since he dismissal season in 2014, he has improved dramatically.

He has actually developed into one of the most accurate kickers in the league. Sure, he is no Mason Crosby or Adam Vinatieri, but he is solid.

While we patiently wait for training camp, this will be something to keep an eye on.
