RomoWatch is on.  Everything you need to know about the ongoing Tony Romo debacle is right here, courtesy of Predominantly Orange.

On March 8th, news broke that Tony Romo was going to be released by the Dallas Cowboys. Everyone knew that the two teams that would be in the market for his services were the Denver Broncos and the Houston Texans.  The Broncos were far and away the overwhelming favorite for his services at that point.  On March 9th, everything changed.

After telling Romo his release would be granted, Jerry Jones (or maybe Stephen Jones) decided that they weren’t going to “Do-Right” by their long time quarterback.  Instead, they decided to hold Romo hostage as the free agency landscape took shape.  What hasn’t taken shape, however, is the quarterback market.  Colin Kaepernick is still looking for work.  Jay Cutler was released by the Bears and is also in need of a new home—as was Chase Daniel for the Eagles.

So what’s the holdup?  Tony Romo is the holdup ladies and gentlemen.  The Jones’ have literally halted the quarterback market as teams await that first domino to fall.  The Texans and Broncos are still both positioned to land Romo–the Texans much more so than they were at this time a week ago.  On March 9th, hours before reportedly set to be released, the Texans somehow unloaded Brock Osweiler on to the Cleveland Browns.  It took a second round draft pick to get them to take on the $16 million remaining in guarantees, but it freed up roughly $10 million in cap space.

The Cowboys took the trade to mean that this could be a two-horse race between the Broncos and Texans, and when there is a market, there could be trade partners.  And so began the game of chicken.  When it will stop, nobody knows (except Jerry and Stephen of course).

So where do we stand now?
