Former Denver Broncos quarterback Brock Osweiler responded to some of the comments made about him by Broncos GM John Elway…

The Denver Broncos have moved on from the Brock Osweiler situation, but it’s clear that it still bothers John Elway. In the years that Elway has been the general manager of the Denver Broncos, he hasn’t really had to deal with much rejection.

In the case of Brock Osweiler, it was personal.

Clearly.

Elway recently made these comments in a piece from the Denver Post about the Osweiler situation last season…

“I can understand that he didn’t want to sit down and have Peyton come back in that San Diego game, but it wasn’t the fact that Brock was playing bad. We needed a change of something.

“So I was a little surprised just how he seemed to be a little bent out of shape about that. But he had an opportunity to make a tremendous amount of money in Houston, and for us, it just didn’t fit.”

Osweiler recently responded to Elway’s comments via the media in Houston.

“The only thing I would say is what kind of competitor wouldn’t want to play in that situation?” Osweiler said. “Outside of that, I think I’ve answered all of those questions, we’re now in August, we just had a great training camp practice and I’m excited to play the 49ers coming up.”

Osweiler’s right. There’s no competitor that wouldn’t want to continue playing in that situation. Manning’s play throughout last season was generally a disaster, and Osweiler came in and stopped the bleeding a bit. That being said, the offense’s shortcomings in the season’s final game against San Diego were atrocious, and Osweiler wasn’t completely without guilt in that regard.

The Broncos made a change that probably had to be made in a must-win situation. Osweiler was/is salty about it, so he spurned the Broncos’ hefty offer in free agency. That made John Elway pretty upset.

Is it October yet?
