Denver Broncos pass rusher and Super Bowl 50 MVP Von Miller declared on Thursday that there’s ‘no chance’ he will play 2016 under the franchise tag.

Von Miller made an emphatic statement on Thursday.

The Broncos’ franchise player declares that he will not play this season under the franchise tag, and this could be great timing for the Broncos. They have a month to get a long-term contract figured out, and they can plan on their MVP not being around for any of the offseason and possibly the regular season if they can’t come up with the right contractual numbers.

We all know how John Elway is under pressure.

With the recent contract signed by Fletcher Cox in Philadelphia for over $63 million guaranteed, it would seem the Broncos have the easiest possible solution to Miller’s demands. Pay him slightly more guaranteed money than Cox, and give him the long-term deal he deserves.

When John Elway took over the franchise in 2011, he made Miller the centerpiece of a rebuild. Now he’s the cornerstone of a champion. There’s no reason not to pay him. He is a Super Bowl MVP, perennial Pro Bowler, and the biggest asset the Broncos have.

He’s a game-changer, someone who can create offense when the Broncos are incapable of moving the ball. He’s the total package as a football player, and he’s worth every penny he’s asking for. Miller went on Chelsea Handler’s talk show (on Netflix) and talked about how he wants to be a Bronco for life, how he can’t see himself playing for any other team.

He did make a statement (however quickly or briefly) on the show that he wouldn’t sit out games this season, but perhaps his agent caught wind of that and advised him that wasn’t in his best interests in getting a long term deal done.

The statement made on Thursday is as emphatic as any we’ve seen thus far from Miller.

John Elway needs to figure out a way to pay him.
