The Denver Broncos will soon have no choice but to pay QB Brock Osweiler, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing…

It’s been a whale of a couple of weeks for Denver Broncos quarterback Brock Osweiler, the backup to Peyton Manning who has come in and done an incredible job of holding down the fort.

The reality of the situation that’s currently unfolding before our eyes is that it’s a win-win-win scenario for the Broncos, the fans, and Brock Osweiler. In the final year of his contract, it wasn’t exactly how the Broncos or even probably Osweiler drew it up in his head, but after years of waiting, training, mentally preparing, and, well…

It was finally Osweiler’s time, on his 25th birthday, and he showed out against the Chicago Bears with a gorgeous game-sealing drive that capitulated in a touchdown to Cody Latimer, the first of his career. Osweiler then came out and brought the Broncos back from a 21-7 fourth quarter hole against the undefeated New England Patriots, and an overtime victory.

The hype has been strong, and Osweiler — just two starts in — has landed his first Sports Illustrated cover.

Like it or not, the way the NFL works is pretty simple. You need a quarterback to be competitive in this league, and if this season has proven anything, it’s that you’re only as good as your backup quarterback. The Broncos happen to have a pretty good one in Osweiler, and he stands to make some coin off of that.

Osweiler’s emergence over the last two games can be overstated at times for Broncos fans, but the results can’t be argued. He’s won two games in two games played, and he’s looked pretty good in the process. Any smart NFL agent will see what’s going on in this league at the QB position and know that what Osweiler has to offer is valuable.

There were reports that Osweiler was being dangled by John Elway last year for a 6th round draft pick, and I nearly had to replace my laptop there was so much vomit on it after I read such an erroneous report. Quarterbacks like Osweiler don’t just pop up out of nowhere. He is a young talent with a lot of upside, and your source is telling you he was available for a 6th?

Might be time to get another source or two.

Osweiler’s value to the Broncos is now insanely high. Not only has he won games, but he’s proven he can beat the best of the best in the worst situations. Win on the road? Check. Beat Tom Brady? Check. Win in the cold? Check. Make incredible throws under pressure? Check.

Orchestrate a two-minute drill to perfection? Check.

He checks all the boxes. He’s still only 25 years of age.

And with free agency coming this offseason, the Broncos will have no choice but to pay him, no matter how small the sample size.
