Before the NFL Draft began, it was certain that whatever happened could determine Brock Osweiler’s future with the Denver Broncos. The draft has come and gone and Brock Osweiler is still standing.

Fans and analysis are at about a 50-50 split on Brock Osweiler. Some see him as a quarterback who has great potential and an apparent heir to Peyton Manning once he hangs up the cleats. Some see him as a player who will not succeed for a variety of reasons, most notably for his lack of playing time and raw abilities.

In my opinion, I think Brock Osweiler’s future was dependent on what the Broncos were going to do in the draft, like most people believed. If the Broncos decided to draft Garrett Grayson like some thought he would, most would have thought Brock Osweiler might not be the answer to the Broncos in the long run. With Grayson drafted by the New Orleans Saints, that eliminated that possibility.

The Broncos could have used a third round pick on Brett Hundley or Bryce Petty. However, they skipped over them both. The Broncos did end up drafting a quarterback in Trevor Siemian from Northwestern University, but most figure that he will be battling Zac Dysert for the third quarterback spot on the roster.

If the Broncos decided not to go with players like Garrett Grayson, Brett Hundley, or Bryce Petty, that speaks volumes to me at how confident they are with Brock Osweiler. I believe with the Broncos not going with a quarterback on day two or even the early stages of day three, it shows that they do see Brock Osweiler as the quarterback of the future. Even John Elway mentioned that there “was a reason the Broncos drafted Brock Osweiler.”

While I do agree that he needs more playing time and to work out a few little kinks in his game, he can be successful. Especially when it comes to this new offense. He can learn the zone offense for a year or two and then be confident in leading the Broncos offense.

The only thing that worries me about the Brock Osweiler situation is that his rookie contract ends at the conclusion of the 2015 season. Hopefully this year, the Broncos will get a better feel on how Brock Osweiler can perform this season.

For the moment, I believe his job is secured. However, what happens within the next year will really tell us if he is ready for the future as the Broncos franchise quarterback.
