Does former Denver Broncos defensive coordinator and current Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen really have an advantage this Sunday because he knows the Broncos’ defense so well? He even knows newcomer and starting cornerback Tracy Porter well from their days in New Orleans.

“At the end of the day, it’s all about match ups and out guys have got to out execute the Broncos guys,” Allen said in a conference call.

According to Champ Bailey, Allen put extra emphasis on recognizing plays right out of the huddle.

“He had this thing where he would break down personnel formations,” Bailey said. “He was real big on how he broke teams down and how they come out of the huddle. He was real big on seeing teams come out of the huddle. ‘Read the story.’ They’re telling you something so when they come out and line up, you know what to expect. I kind of carry that over to this year.”

As for whether the Broncos will disguise their defense more this week, Bailey doesn’t think that needs to happen.

“Our defense is different and he’s on top of it, but there’s only so much you can do in the 30 seconds that he’s going to have to try to warn his guys about what we’re doing,” Bailey said. “Maybe it could be a halftime adjustment, but it is what it is. We’ve got to go play our game. He can’t go out there and play so I’m not really worried.”
