Are The Broncos Two Lost Souls?

This week has been rough for me.

The Raider induced nightmares have started. Not that you really need reminding, but the last time these two teams met, the media dubbed the game “Fiasco at Invesco.” Rightfully so. The Broncos lost by 45-points at home.

Unfortunately, I attended the game and now every time I see a Raiders logo, I sweat more than a turkey on Thanksgiving Day.

The Raiders still have a lot to play for. They are in third place in the AFC West at 6-7 while the 3-10 Broncos are playing for pride and job security at this point.

I was sitting in the stands well into the fourth quarter with plenty of elbow room as the Raiders outmanned and out played the Broncos on a cloudy October Day. At that point in time, the Broncos were on their way to a 2-5 record, but much hope remained for what was left of the season. That following week, they were to play the 1-6 49ers and then rest up during the bye week, and play 5 of their 6 division games in the last half of the season. That’s a bubble-wrapped schedule if you ask me.

The Broncos had already beat Seattle and a thriving Tennessee team, not to mention put up a solid effort against the Jets. The nose of the ship was pointing forward. All someone had to do was get behind the wheel and steer. Instead, the ship hit the iceberg and those little inflatable rafts only came out in week 10 when the Broncos crushed the Chiefs. Since then, the ship has sunk and it’s every man for himself.

That’s the problem here. It looks like every man is for himself in this team game. Individual performances standout (e.g. Champ Bailey shutting down Dwayne Bowe), but the team effort isn’t there to pick up wins.

When I think about the situation, I’m reminded of Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here.

"We’re just two lost soulsSwimming in a fish bowl,Year after year,Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears.Wish you were here."

Damn, do I wish the Broncos were here.
