Broncos Acquire Laurence Maroney In Trade With New England

The Broncos have acquired Laurence Maroney and a sixth round draft pick in 2011 in a trade with New England, reports Adam Schefter. Denver gave up their 2011 4th round draft pick in the deal.

That’s right, the Broncos have dipped into the Patriots’ pool once again to quench their need for help at running back.

Maroney has played for the Patriots for the past four seasons. Last year, he had 757 yards on 194 carries for 9 TDs and 4 fumbles. He also had 14 receptions for 99 yards. Maroney was inactive during the Patriots week 1 matchup with the Bengals due to a thigh injury. The running back has battled injuries throughout his career, never playing a complete season. He played in just 3 games during the ’08-’09 season due a shoulder injury landing him on the IR.

The Broncos certainly need the help at running back. Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter are still getting used to game-speed after missing all of training camp and most of preseason. The Broncos struggled on the ground in week 1 against the Jaguars with 89 yards on 25 carries.
